Devotion

[This is my devotion page that describes who i am devoting my entire blog to. I wrote and devoted it to the two most influential people in my life.]

Devotion

When I began to think about whom I was devoting my chapbook too, a lot of people came to mind. I thought about my friends, teachers, family, coaches, and many in between. It really came down to who is always around and will always be there for me when I need them most. Who always encouraged me to do what’s right and put my best foot forward into everything. These two people are the most influential ones in my life and I don’t know what I’d do without them. With that being said, I am devoting my echapbook to my parents, Rick and Barbara Lyons.

I chose my parents mainly because of everything that they have done for me over the past 17 years. I wouldn’t be writing this devotion at all if not for them; they were the ones that convinced me to come to Penn Charter. When my brother RJ chose to go to Penn Charter my parents believed that it would be a really good idea if I went with him throughout high school. I really didn’t like that idea at all; I was completely against the idea of switching schools and leaving all of my friends. After many talks and persuasive ones at that, my parents convinced me that coming to Penn Charter would be the best thing for me, and they were right. I have met and am friends with a lot of amazing people and the education I’m receiving couldn’t get any better. I couldn’t thank them enough for the opportunity that they have granted me with.

My mom is quite the character; she is very animate and one can say annoying at times but she only means well. We don’t always see eye to eye but she is always there for me when I need her and is always willing to lay a helping hand. It’s not so much the big things, but it’s the little things that make her one of my devotee’s. I ran at the Penn Relays this year for Penn Charter which is the biggest track meet in the world. It is a really important meet and I was one of the five that was chosen to run. About six days prior to the meet I had ordered a pair of running spikes that we’re supposed to come well before the day of the meet. Instead, they never got delivered and the night before was a madhouse trying to track them down. My mom spent all night driving up and down the street looking for a Fed-Ex box with my name on it, literally. She came up empty but that wasn’t going to stop her. The next morning she was on the phone with the Fed-Ex company looking for the package. I had already left to go down to Penn Charter but my mom was determined to find those shoes. It turned out that the shoes made it to the Fed-Ex storage facility in Fort Washington but just never got delivered. So that morning my mom drove out of her way to get them and bring them to the meet so I had them to run in. I believe that my mom will literally do anything she can to help me with whatever I need help with, she more than deserves this devotion.

My dad is a lot different then my mom. He is pretty quiet in public very unlike my mom. He tends to keep his comments to himself outside the house, but inside the house he’s one of the funniest people I know. He doesn’t show it too often, only with people he’s comfortable with, but when he lets loose it’s hilarious. My dad is the one that I come to first whenever I ask a question that I want to be answered with a “yes.” He’s a real cool dad and he encourages me to do my best in both academics and athletics. For the whole 16 and a half years that I couldn’t drive, he was always the one that drove me around. Weather it’d be to a soccer game 2 or 3 hours away or my girlfriends house he never complained. He is always around when I need him and even now as a driver I still call him when I’m lost and he can tell me where to go. My dad always knows what the best thing for me is even when I don’t. This past spring I was really debating quitting track but he convinced me to stick with it and it turned out with us winning the Inter-Ac championship. He pushes me to do my best throughout everything and he will never let me down.

My parents are a pretty good pair of parents if you ask me. Everyone else I thought of devoting my chapbook to didn’t even compare to my parents. They really are everything I need out of loving and caring parents. That is why I am devoting my echapbook to my parents.
