Sound Off: English Class
[This is a sound off written about my views on my English class that i wrote about a month into the 2006-2007 school year.]
This English class is going pretty well for me so far. I’ve never been a big fan of poetry, so the past couple of weeks have gone pretty slow. I don’t really like any of the authors. Whitman is my favorite one I guess because he is the most straight forward poet, and isn’t that hard to understand. Faulkner is my least favorite because he is really hard to understand. Emily Dickinson is right in the middle because some of her poems are straight forward and don’t have an underlining meaning; but at the same time there are some poems that don’t make any sense to me. The poems that I hate the most are the long ones that have a stupid underlying meaning. Lindi’s poem was a perfect example. I can’t remember what the poem was called but I remember I hated it, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the class hated it too. The poem that I actually like are the short ones that I agree with and can figure them out. That’s why I picked “Success is counted sweetest” for my paper of many parts.
