3/8/07 of Montreal at the trocadero

This past Thursday, Sam and I dawdled down to the sold out of Montreal show at the troc. Bigger than any venue of Montreal has played at thus far in the city of brotherly love, over 1000 people packed into the old theater. Both Mixel Pixel and Grand Buffet opened for them. To say it as blunt as possible, Mixel Pixel was just bad. The three things they had going for them were their matching outfits, glittery makeup (which was obviously a cue taken from of Montreal) and cool light show. Well actually just the outfits. The light show gave me a headache. But anywho, I wouldn’t necessarily listen to Grand Buffet in the comfort of my own home, but they did put on a hell of a funny show. There isn’t much that i enjoy more than pencil thin red bearded Irish fella and a fat man with his chain hanging low rapping.

So by the time of Montreal took the stage, Sam and I managed to make our way towards the front half of the room. This was both good and bad. You see, the crowd was moshing and crowd surfing and just generally be obnoxious, and there I was, all 5 feet 2 inches of me, unwillingly getting pushed around. Blasted. But despite the aggressive crowd of smelly indie kids, their performance was one of the best I have ever seen. Near the beginning of their set, Kevin somehow managed maneuver himself into this huge Aztec God/Fruit lady outfit (it’s debatable). It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on stage. And he had this awesome lobster claw which he wore for a few songs. Also, throughout the whole show, this guy in a tight white jumpsuit kinda just loomed around on stage eating grapes and throwing them into the audience, one of which happened to hit me in the head. He also came on stage with the flag of Norway, the country that Kevin resided in while recording part of the latest album. Unfortunately, Sam and I had to leave 2 songs into the encore because we had an 11 o’clock curfew (cute.) But i heard that they played a fiery furnaces cover which led into a talking heads cover (I’m not sure specifically what songs). Visually, I was blown away, and the music of course was amazing.
Here are a few pictures from the show, you can see the rest here

Not sure why, but I lost your feed for a while.

Getting stuck in a mosh pit of sweaty indies — shudder.
