A day in the life…

May 22nd, 2007

Some of you may ask: Hector, what was a “normal” day for you? Well lads, if I must answer the question I will. For a day in the life of Hector was no ordinary day. I had to have everything just so, and if something was not the way I wanted it, it was considered a bad day.

The day began with my awakening. When I awoke, I always wanted to find my wife Andromache at my side. She would always be awake before me, but nonetheless she would sit in bed and wait for me to arise. When I finally decided to get out of my bed- after diddy-dallying of course- I was made my meal. I had to have my steak with a side of bacon and eggs. The eggs had to be warrior side up of course; I mean what man did not eat his eggs such a way. Next I would walk into the other room, and gather my clothes for the day. If they were not already laid out, the day was ruined. I would throw on my shorts-you call it a skirt these days- and my sandals.

When I was done changing I marched downstairs, out of my chamber. At this time, the city of Troy was rather awake, and all the merchants were trying to sell their newest trade. I never paid much attention to the various merchants; I was allowed to gather my materials from the King, for he was my father. I never visited him during a typical day though. If there was an important issue to discuss, occasionally I would be found so that I could discuss these issues with him.

I am part of a large family, so my other brothers and sisters needed his time more than mine. When I was a child, he sent me off to the School of Arms Elementary school. Here I learned the aspects it took to become a leading commander in my nation’s army. During those years, I often spent time with my father, but once I had graduated from the next school, I was on my own- starting my own family.

After walking the streets of Troy, I would finally return home for another meal. This time the meal was largely fruit. After eating, I would go into the courtyard and being working out. I always needed to stay buff, and in shape in case any war should call my name. I would do a set of 100 pushups 15 times, and then practice my swordsman skills. After my long workout I would return to my quarters to see my son and wife.

My time was spent largely with my family after my workout- unless I was needed elsewhere. The rest of the day was consumed with them, and then another meal- steak with some greens- and then my sleep. Sadly, these types of days were numbered, as the Trojan War began to knock on the doors of Troy.

The event that determined everything

When I am asked to recall a most influential moment in my lifetime, Paris’ cowardice always comes to mind. It all started with the love between Paris and Helen. Helen was rewarded to Paris because of a beauty contest of the gods. Anyway, Paris and I were on our way to Sparta. We were going to pay Menelaus a visit and pretty much party for a few days. It was a really fun time, but eventually it came time for us to head back home. We said goodbye to Menelaus and boarded our ship to sail back home. Eventually, I had found out what Paris had done. He had snuck Helen onto our ship, and she was coming back to Troy. I threatened Paris, and told him that I would not tolerate any of this. He, however, being the pleading man he is, asked for my forgiveness. I let her come back to Troy, and soon enough Menelaus was on his way over.

He was so angry that he brought his brother Agamemnon as well as the famed warrior Achilles. I prepared my men for battle, and told my father Priam the reason for the commotion. I lined the soldiers up along our walls, and prepared for any sudden or sneaky attack by the Greeks. They did no such thing at this time. Instead, I addressed Paris. I made him realize that he had brought shame upon us. I would not stand for such things; I was an honorable Trojan and he my brother. What an idiot he was though. I cannot believe he thought he would get Helen to stay in Troy forever without any conflict with the Greeks.

After explaining the shame Paris had brought us, he proposed a duel between himself and Menelaus. My brother however, said such things just to get me off of his back. He always did that: “yeah Hector, no problem, I’ll definitely do that!” Then go ahead and not do anything. However, this time Paris did go to fight Menelaus. He was getting destroyed, when he ran off the field. I think this might have been the work of some god, because without such Paris would have surely died.

However, I wish that Paris would have stayed and fought! No matter what the outcome, his death or the end to the battle would have ended the Trojan War right there. For all we know, Troy would still stand and I its new King…..so I guess everything that happens after Paris walked off the field, is his entire fault. Hey at least he admits he is a pansy! Also, I can’t stay mad at him during my death because I think he might have killed Achilles, so at least he killed the man who insulted my dead body.

I dont really know where this comes from, I think some new technology of the modern age. I am amazed at how real I look! I guess they kind of made me all sleek, in the future. I look ready to kill anybody, I just wish I had my fellow Trojans to back me up! HOOORAAAA

Ajax and Hector exchange gifts.jpg(http://www.mnemosyne.org/mia/showillu?id=embmne_bon1551_167 )

This is a woocut art piece, which shows me giving my sword to Ajax. We had battled for an entire day, neither of us achieving victory. After the fight we both admired eachother as a great warrior. I gave my sword to him, while I recieved his girdle. I was, and still am, sadened by the fact that he used that sword for his own death.

Hector Astyanax MN Jatta.jpg(en.wikipedia.org/?title=Achilles)

Well this is a painting of me giving my Helmet to my son. I'm sure you all heard about it. It was right before my battle with Achilles. I knew that there was a chance I would die, so I wanted to make sure that Astyanax recieved my famed warrior helmet.
