March 2nd, 2009 by mmoulton

Jenna M. and Blaine S.

Free Discussion of Public Issues in Schools
North Pacific Yearly Meeting

Verse 1
Silence is no longer golden
No longer what the cool kids are doing
Silence has grown out of fashion
Speaking is the new way of being

chorus
With a voice anything is possible
According to the first amendment
And the liberty bell
Freedom of speech is for all to tell

Verse 2
I can tell anyone shut up
I can tell William Penn sup
I can scream for change
I can keep it rearranged

Chorus

Bridge
I can day my opinions on integrity
Or leave a comment on what I think of equality

Chorus

Gambling

Gambling Minute of Concern
Germantown Monthly Meeting
http://blog.penncharter.com/musicforchange/gambling-minute/

The game is addicting
Gotta keep on winning
The wheel keeps spinning
And the slots keep ticking
My mind is racing and
My heart keeps pumping
Don’t know the time
It’s an unspeakable crime
Can’t turn the clocks back
I’m out of money and I’m out of time
There’s no going back
Might as well have a heart attack
The chips in hand and my hand on the slot
Gotta keep going or my mind will rot
I’m at the end of the rope
There’s no more line
All of my friends think that I'm outta my mind
They reach out their hands
But I turn them away
In favor of another game to play
Can’t turn the clocks back
I’m out of money and I’m out of time
There’s no going back
Might as well have a heart attack
The chips in hand and my hand on the slot
Gotta keep going or my mind will rot
Now I’m making good
Now I got a job
Getting back the all the things
The game robbed
Can’t turn the clocks back
I’m out of money and I’m out of time
There’s no going back
Might as well have a heart attack
The chips in hand and my hand on the slot
Gotta keep going or my mind will rot
Now I’m looking back
It’s been so long
Now I know I'v done some wrong
Gambling is addicting
Don’t get sucked it
If you do you’ll never win
I’ve learned my lesson
I won’t go back
Starting now my life’s on track

9/11

Minute on the Events of September 11
Madison Monthly Meeting

Deshawn H.B. & Dan L.
Chorus: We join with those worldwide in mourning about the immeasurable suffering caused by September 11, 2001 that killed hundreds. (talking)
1st verse:
We as Americans have been hurt
By the way the Afghans shocked us
With their attacks on 9/11
And the way they left us to soak
In the shame that we were to blame for this hurt that they have given us.
Chorus
Bridge:
For we believe that
We should just fight back
But we should think back
In time when we fought and how bad it was
With the great fact
That it’ll be a great act if we don’t fight back.
Chorus
2nd verse:
As we soak in this hurt
That the Afghans have given us
We might think that we should hurt
Every single one of them
But we will just cause death to all of us
We join with those worldwide in mourning about the immeasurable suffering caused by September 11, 2001 that killed hundreds but we shalt not just react. For we will think about our actions before we do them because we are Americans and we think before we act. So we shall learn from our peaceful predecessors and we shall act…… peacefully. (talking)

Death Penalty

Death Penalty
Providence Monthly Meeting
Minute on Capital Punishment
http://blog.penncharter.com/musicforchange/death-penalty-minute/

There was a guy named Moe
who had a big red car
he came home from work
and the cops were in his yard
so moe went down to greet them
and ask how he could help
but they said shut up get in the car
and buckle your seat belt
Poor Moe
Poor Moe
He never really had a clue
he didnt run him over but he didnt have a lawyer
so now he's really screwed
They charged poor moe with murder
a crime he didnt commit
they said he ran some old guy over
got back in his car and split
so moe went to the jury
showed no remorse for lies
the judge declared death penalty
without a compromise

Torture

March 1st, 2009 by mmoulton

Torture
Gibson R. Emily A, Jess S.
Oxford Quaker Meeting
A Statement on the Disavowal of Torture

We are trying
to make it clear
the people can't
live life in fear
we do not support the use
of torture or of its abuse
why dont leaders
in our nation
support our senator's legislation
it's not fair
we can't bear
don't wanna go on in despair

Chorus:
Quakers as we are
Torture's gonna leave us with a scar
all humans are created in the image of God
Quakers as we are
take a stand and we'll go far
all humans are created in the image of God

Evil is what we are confronting
with its own means
Peace is what we wanna bring
it feels right to do
in our hearts and in our dreams
torture's days are through

Chorus

This is not only personal
but national too
this belief is way more than a quaker value
Senator, we can save you
help the world pull through
we're gonna stand agains torture, it's way over due.
Torture is coming to an end, being peaceful is the new trend.

Marriage Equality

Minutes on same-gender marriage and marriages under care of meetings in New England Yearly Meeting
July 18, 1996
http://www.qis.net/~daruma/rice.html

The hatred in this nation
Only ends in isolation
For people just like you and me

So we’re asking for permission
If you’ll join us in this mission
For marriage equality

It’s that loving thing,
All the bells will ring
Please don’t shut them out
Because the passion and devotion is what we sing about

So why is it okay when
Two drunk people come and join hands
For a 48 hour stint

But others have to suffer
While they’re loving one another
For years and years without end

It’s that loving thing,
All the bells will ring
Please don’t shut them out
Because the passion and devotion is what we sing about

Because were all the same
Just listed with different names
If you could see
What we could see
Maybe then we’d agree

Domestic Spying

March 1st, 2009 by mmoulton

Nicholas L. and Riley B.
Palm Beach Monthly Meeting
http://blog.penncharter.com/musicforchange/domestic-spying-minute/

Verse 1:

Our nonviolence takes courage in the face of war
What is the government really here for
They take my secrets
They spy on my home
With domestic spying I’m never alone

Chorus:

I hold this nation in the light
Though it acts not really right
Speech, religion, and pri-va-cy
These truths are dear to me

Verse 2:

The government, the man, whoever you be
You think you can just spy on me
No matter who I am or who I be
Whether I’m one race or three
Man, you just gotta know that we’re all free

Chorus

Bridge:

I’ll put this nation to the light
I’ll show it acted not all that right
One life at home with pri-va-cy
That’s a freedom that they stole from me

Verse 3:

Man, wherever your tools may be
My phone, my house, my car, or watching through my money
We’re just speaking truth
We’re hiding nothing
Lets avoid this political dance
Let’s just give peace a fighting chance

Chorus

Gun Violence

Heeding God´s Call: A Gathering on Peace
Gun Dealer Code of Conduct
http://www.peacegathering2009.org/saturday-witness/gun-code-of-conduct

Gun violence in Pa needs to stop

Number of murders we’re at the top

Why can’t we all be at peace?
The trafficking of illegal guns needs to cease

Harrisburg has the highest gun death rate
We need to start over and clean the slate

1st Verse

Guns in PA is like a contagious disease
Moms on tv crying screaming "find who killed my baby please"

People walking down the street at night
They grab their bags tight scared of the gun or the night

The guns are made then distributed through illegal trade
All it takes is one shot and the life of a child could fade

There are a lot of people to blame
Like when the EAGLES lost their 5th NFC championship game.

At walmart you can buy golf carts, glue and guns too
Walmart adding to the gun death rate who woulda knew

Gun violence in Pa needs to stop
Number of murders we’re at the top

Why can’t we all be at peace?
The trafficking of illegal guns needs to cease

Harrisburg has the highest gun death rate
We need to start over and clean the slate

2nd Verse

There is a simple way to control guns
There are 10 steps so I’m gonna name some

Videotaping the sale is a start
Turing down fake I-Ds is smart

Signs reminding customers of the law
And getting background checks on employees is without flaw

Customer background checks and more
This code is even followed by the Walmart store

confederate flag

March 4th, 2008 by mmoulton

Drew Bonus and Steve McVeigh The confederate battle flag came to war To defend the slavery that it stood for The flag backed hate and freedom for some It chased down others and left them undone The flag waved on beside the burning cross Scaring more the ones already lost The white mans hate continued to feed On their prey, on their strength and steed Chorus: All of this hate is bringing thunder It’s got me in a haze, runnin for cover, But still I see no changes, People flying hate, about a war already lost Look what that damn flag has already cost So I know, its up to us to make the fear disappear So brothers where we gonna go from here How are we gonna fix this concentrated mess That has brought this damn country so much stress the stars and bars has evolved into a sign of deadly hate that plagues our crazed minds so tell me brothers where we gonna go from here where we gonna, where we gonna, where we gonna, go, go, go from here?? The flag is flown by the ku klux klan The men of white with dirty hands Their pointed hats and unloved cloaks Are caked with dirt that they boast The Ku Klux Klan bleeds blood of hate They fly the flag of a confederate state Saint Andrews Cross blows in the breeze Alongside people lynched from trees

The Iraq War

February 25th, 2008 by mmoulton

By Aaron, Drew, and Tyler

A; I’m tired of the Iraq War
Its time to step through the door
The people care but the House isn’t listening
It’s like we’re not even existing

CHORUS Oh can’t they see this just isn’t right
It’s not fair to kill without a fight
Poverty, warfare, and mistreating the citizens
Just another reason to get rid of him.

We are starving a bunch of people that aren’t involved in this
What do you think of this injustice
How would you like it if was your life
Being wasted for a pointless, meaningless fight

CHORUS Oh can’t they see this just isn’t right
It’s not fair to kill without a fight
Poverty, warfare, and mistreating the citizens
Just another reason to get rid of him.

It is against our virtue and the ways of god
It’s time for a change
Send in the peace squad.
We must follow our hearts and what we believe in
Reconciliation; one movement over the nation
OOOOHHHHHHH.

CHORUS Oh can’t they see this just isn’t right
It’s not fair to kill without a fight
Poverty, warfare, and mistreating the citizens
Just another reason for all to start listening.
