Iraq War

Monica Butler and Carolyn Vahey

their struggles wont be undone
a culture of peace will never come
and in the end no one will have won
a war of hate has just begun

as friends we must take a stand
we need to prevent the wrong doings of man
this is not how justice should be found
soon enough there will be no sound

when everything is said and done
no one will be here to clean up the mess
the lives lossed are already to many to count
the question we must ask is when will we realize this war is our demise?

their struggles wont be undone
a culture of peace will never come
and in the end no one will have won
a war of hate has just begun

and now we sit here waiting to decide
how the rest of the world will reside
this hate has spread throughout the land
and the answers to why it is happening is what we are asking for in demand

their struggles wont be undone
a culture of peace will never come
and in the end no one will have won
a war of hate has just begun

We tried almost everything before choosing the pattern we have. We tried like 5 different types of bass drums for the background. We tried more hip hop beats and the hard rock throughout the entire song. We settled on a balance between the rock and the soft piano. We thought that the intense beginning leading into the softer tone best exemplified the lyrics. Peaceful music for the peace that is hoped for and the softer music makes it more emotional. I think the chorus,
    “their struggles wont be undone
a culture of peace will never come
and in the end no one will have won
a war of hate has just begun”
Was a key aspect that we wanted to include. I think that is why we repeated it more than once. It says to the listener that we can end this war now because one can win in a war of hate. We can’t turn back the time but we can try to make peace. I would change the presentation. This is because the way the lyrics in the song are presented kind of knock out the music. If we knew more about garage band I think we might have been able to make that work better. I really liked the way the music turned out with the lyrics. I wasn’t sure if they would work well together but I am happy with it.

We first chose a mix of funk and rock for our backroud music and with a slow process and many trials we were able to come to a colaborative piece. This process could certainly be described as colaborative, Monica and i works together on this process to come up with a truly emotional and insightful piece of music honoring the minute we chose. I think that in our song we truly captured the feeling of unreast monica and i felt that the minute spoke of. Also when i was writing the lyrics i thought it was interesting to incorporate a question so that after listening to this song you can walk away questioning you stand and your views. I feel as though when we would record this it shoud be spoken again or sung as if it was a lullaby in contrast to the seriousness and heavyness of the war. I feel as though overall i an extremely happy with our project and the final result.

This song is really good. I like the lyrics because they rhyme nicely. But if I were to “remix” this song I would put a back beat and possibly sing the song because there are many nice melodies that could go with the nice piano progression.

I really like this song..is that Malcolm screaming YEAH? Anyway, this song is amazing. The soft melody and the speaking of lyrics conveys just how serious this issue is. It made me sit back and think just how devastating and pointless this war is. GREAT JOB!!
