Abortion
Abortion: Kathryn Moran and Nadirah Waites
Verse 1
That of God in everyone shows our respect
For human life
So women who want to abort their babies
Is hard to agree is right
Verse 2
But we ask you not to discriminate or
To refuse to help them out
Don’t judge these women for you don’t know
How they feel or what their situation is about
Chorus
And as friends in this world we are torn
Between two ideas
Women have a right to a personal choice
But what about the rights of those without a voice?
Verse 3
Overall these women must never be forced
The decision is only hers
The government must never make a legal rule
On either of these views
Chorus
And as friends in this world we are torn
Between two ideas
Women have a right to a personal choice
But what about the rights of those without a voice?

Catherine and I never really tried any other types of music when making the beat for this song. We both knew that we wanted a type of up-beat but smooth blues type of beat so wee did not waste anytime listening to other things. We thought this typedo of music would match our message best because we wanted music that was up-beat and keep peopled interested, but not up-beat tgo thed point were people were only listening to the beat and not the lyrics. We felt as though the issue surrounding abortion was not a joke, so the song shouldn’t be either. Within our song, Catherine and I wanted to try our best to get acroos the fact that Quakers were in a state of quandary when it came it came to abortion, and I believe we did a good job with that. I could see Jennifer Hudson singing this song because she has a very soulful voice that would fit this song.

This is good and has a nice a nice layout. It talks about the issue well. I think it expresses the issue well and is pretty good song. I got the feeling and message that overall, abortion is a right and that governments and other groups shoudln’t prevent people from making their own choice. I don’t know who I would see recording this song, but obviously some sort of activist interested in these isssues.

I really like your song and think it is really catchy. The beginning made me want to listen and how the singer actually had a great voice made me want to hear it more. I think that it had a nice message and really gets the message of the minute. The chorus makes me think about when you said about the people without a voice. It made me excited and made me really be like, wow I agree with this. I don’t know if I would do a remix on this. I don’t think lyrics like this could be rapped or made more rock. I like the rock/folk type music that you used. If you were to do a remix though, I would have to say it would sound nice with an acoustic touch. If you slowed it down like that it would have more emphasis on the lyrics.

Before making our final song, we tried making it a piano based ballad. However, when thinking more about the topic and after coming up with the lyrics, we realized that the piano loop wouldn’t make much sense. Instead we came up with the acoustic based sound. Even though the minute is serious and abortion is a generally debated topic, (Even within the minute that was written. They took both stands, pro-life and pro-choice) we thought that making it an upbeat song would be opposite the seriousness of the matter and cause some tension among the thoughts of the listeners. Thinking about it now, if I were to change something within the song it would probably be the Tenor Sax sound because it’s a generally bad sound and I’m not sure if it really fits. But overall, I’m happy with the song that we created and I feel that the ideas expressed within the minute were appropriately expressed within the song.

Their message is clear, and is courteous. While most songs take one side on an issue, they don’t show the basis to the other side of the arguement. This song was fair, and remains unbiased and laid back on an intense issue. Excellent work.
