confederate flag

Drew Bonus and Steve McVeigh The confederate battle flag came to war To defend the slavery that it stood for The flag backed hate and freedom for some It chased down others and left them undone The flag waved on beside the burning cross Scaring more the ones already lost The white mans hate continued to feed On their prey, on their strength and steed Chorus: All of this hate is bringing thunder It’s got me in a haze, runnin for cover, But still I see no changes, People flying hate, about a war already lost Look what that damn flag has already cost So I know, its up to us to make the fear disappear So brothers where we gonna go from here How are we gonna fix this concentrated mess That has brought this damn country so much stress the stars and bars has evolved into a sign of deadly hate that plagues our crazed minds so tell me brothers where we gonna go from here where we gonna, where we gonna, where we gonna, go, go, go from here?? The flag is flown by the ku klux klan The men of white with dirty hands Their pointed hats and unloved cloaks Are caked with dirt that they boast The Ku Klux Klan bleeds blood of hate They fly the flag of a confederate state Saint Andrews Cross blows in the breeze Alongside people lynched from trees

Steve and I decided to go with a southern acousite sound. We utlilzed the acustic guitar and a upright bassline. Our lyrics reflected the feelings of african americans and the oppresion that it has brought them. The flag represents a time of slavery and is still flown in some states. We wrote about the hate that the flag is utilized to promote and why it is a neggative symbol. I dont think this song would be herd on the radio but incase mericals are present it might show up on b101!? i think john mayer may play this song.

In this song, Drew and I were trying to convey to people that there are still people out there that believe that flying the confederate flag is a good thing. People have so much hate in them that they still feel it is right to enslave the african american race and that it is not right for them to have freedoms and rights. I think that if someone was to sing/wrap our song, I would want 2pac to do it because he specializes in songs with these types of feelings, like hate, ignorance and inequality. I feel that a lot of people are still blinded by what they have been told, and the ignorance and hatred needs to stop now before more and more people die over dumn hate crimes. Drew and I made these lyrics to reflect these thoughts and ideas.

I really liked this song. I think that Drew and Steve did a good job using all of the insruments that Garadge band had to offer. The lyrics are very insightfull and give a look into a real problem that this country faces. The change in the middle to a rap really keeps the listener awake and interested.

I like the contrast of music between a lyrical melody and a rap. The melody is nice and the lyrics are really good. The lyrics are deep and powerful which helps to support the song.

This song accurately conveyed the ideas established in the minute. The Southern imagery was particularly effective in portraying the dark history of the Confederate flag. It made it clear to the listener why flying the flag might continue to offend people today.

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, featuring Talib Kweli.

To Drew and Super Steve!: I think that’s creative to switch between rap and rock during the song. The song sounds alright to me, and I like the vocals. The form and components of the song is great, but I think the chorus of the song has less of an impact to the listeners than the slower verses.
