Field Hockey
Writer: Val J.
After an extremely difficult year for Girls Varsity Field Hockey, Erin Harrington, Head Coach was pleased to say that, “this GA game was the best I have ever seen these girls play.”
It was a truly amazing game, despite their tough loss. The final score of 1-2 in overtime may sound disappointing, but the players were able to walk away knowing that they played an incredible game: freshman Alexandra Ingersoll was very instrumental in getting the ball down the field, senior Katie Delaney had some great blocks on defense, and sophomore Caroline Wilkes displayed her wonderful determination scoring the only goal for Penn Charter.

Of all the team’s great players, Anne McKenna—senior, captain, and goalie—saved the day protecting the goal from almost all of Germantown Academy’s scoring attempts. McKenna displayed extreme discipline and perseverance. Ask any spectator and they would marvel at the way she was so committed to guarding the goal. McKenna’s saved the team from many shots on goal; without her the team would not have survived the game as successfully as they did. This kind of determination and leadership is what lead to McKenna being named MVP of the Germantown Academy game.

McKenna’s great leadership was anticipated by her team mates; she was elected captain along with Audra Hugo, and Marghi Walters. However, the leadership of the other seniors Elizabeth Strasbaugh, Erika Berger, and Katie Delaney is definitely something to be noted. Coach Harrington is amazed with the senior’s leadership. They seemed to provide the driving force for the team. Overall, Coach Harrington believes, despite their many setbacks, the team has come a long way and she is very proud of them.
